SOCARTES

Saving Our Communities at Risk Through Educational Services (SOCARTES)

SOCARTES is an educational nonprofit founded in December 2012. Its focus is to help individuals overcome personal challenges and barriers to achieve educational goals within their communities.

A Snapshot of SOCARTES’ Work

S. L. Young discusses educating inmates and dealing with depression / holiday blues on the Maggie Linton Show. This is an encouraging and uplifting interview about the importance of educating inmates, along with thoughtful commentary about the ways individuals can deal with depression to reduce or eliminate holiday blues.

S. L. Young delivers the commencement address at the Fairfax County Public Schools - Interagency Alternative Schools (IAS) Graduation. This is a very unlikely commencement address because Mr. Young was directed to leave high school in the 10th grade after failing 6 of 7 classes in this same school district. He would go on to barely graduate high school on-time, but in the bottom 8% of his class.

S. L. Young discusses using social entrepreneurship to achieve success beyond profits at Alpha Kappa Psi's "Principled Business Leadership Institute" on 2/6/16.

S. L. Young sees communities commonly called “at risk” differently. He sees “opportunity communities,” places where positive change saves lives and creates new possibilities for people in that place.

SOCARTES Celebrates Forward Progress

"Don't devalue any positive struggles toward an endpoint, because completion and success feel the same no matter the way you started."
